Kilkenny Man Convicted for Drink Driving with Staggering Levels

UPDATE: A Kilkenny man has been convicted of drink driving, with authorities revealing a staggering breath alcohol level of 108mcg per 100ml of breath, significantly exceeding the legal limit. Eamonn Walsh, from Bonnetsrath, appeared before Kilkenny District Court after being observed swerving dangerously on the road.

The incident occurred on April 5, 2025, at approximately 7:55 PM when Gardaí on patrol noticed Walsh’s vehicle straying over the white line on Castlecomer Road. The car was seen pulling into the car park of the Glendine Inn, where Walsh was subsequently arrested. A breath test conducted at Kilkenny Garda Station confirmed the alarming alcohol level.

In a separate incident on March 25, 2025, Walsh was also arrested for being highly intoxicated while being refused entry to a local establishment. These repeated offenses highlight a troubling pattern, as Walsh has one previous drink driving conviction.

During the court proceedings, Sergeant Morgan O’Connor emphasized the severity of Walsh’s actions, stating that his breath alcohol reading was “staggeringly high.” Walsh’s solicitor, Chris Hogan, requested that the court consider his client’s guilty plea and ongoing struggle with alcohol addiction. Hogan noted that Walsh has sought treatment and has shown remorse for his actions, assuring the court that he is no longer driving.

Judge Geraldine Carthy recognized the seriousness of the case, imposing a three-year driving disqualification in addition to a fine of €300. The court also took Walsh’s other charge into consideration.
