Kilkenny Nursing Home Achieves Major Compliance Improvement
URGENT UPDATE: Tinnypark Nursing Home in Kilkenny has made a remarkable turnaround, according to a new report from the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) released on March 16, 2023. This comes just weeks after a January inspection revealed 10 areas of non-compliance, prompting serious concerns from officials and the community.
In the latest review, Tinnypark improved significantly, achieving 4 scores of compliance and only 1 significant non-compliance, along with 9 instances of substantial compliance. This swift response is critical for ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
During the January inspection, Senator Patricia Stephenson expressed alarm over the findings, which highlighted issues such as residents’ sensitive information being inadequately secured. However, residents have shared positive feedback during the recent inspections, with many stating they “love it here” and appreciate the care they receive.
Authorities revealed that staffing issues seen in January have been addressed. The nursing management vacancies have been filled, and sufficient housekeeping and laundry staff are now on duty. Despite this, some staff shortages persist, indicating ongoing challenges in maintaining optimal care levels.
The improvement in compliance ratings is largely attributed to the center’s proactive response to previous criticisms. Areas where Tinnypark excelled include residents’ access to personal possessions and overall resident protection. However, critical issues remain, particularly regarding individual care and assessment plans.
For instance, a resident assessed at high risk for pressure ulcers went without a prevention care plan for over ten months, while another at medium risk for malnutrition lacked a corresponding nutrition care plan. These gaps in care highlight the urgent need for continued improvements.
The nursing home has outlined both planned and completed actions in their ongoing compliance plan to tackle these issues, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing resident care. The stark improvement in just six weeks, transitioning from serious non-compliance to a more compliant status, is commendable and reflects the dedication of the staff to address the findings seriously.
While the latest findings are encouraging, there is still work to be done. The focus will now shift to monitoring the implementation of care plans and ensuring that residents receive the attention they require. Future inspections will be critical to maintaining this momentum.
Stay tuned for more updates as Tinnypark Nursing Home continues its journey towards improved care and compliance.
