Kilkenny’s Fran Grincell Aims for €35,000 in Final Kickathon Push
URGENT UPDATE: Fran Grincell’s annual Kickathon is entering its final night, with just €1,610 needed to reach his ambitious fundraising target of €35,000 for local charity Cois Nore. The event has captivated the Kilkenny community over the past 12 nights, culminating in a dramatic finish set for Friday evening.
Grincell, affectionately known as ‘Franaldo’, has been kicking a ball against a wall outside Community Radio Kilkenny, engaging local soccer teams from the Kilkenny & District League to join in the effort. Generous donations have poured in both in-person and via a GoFundMe page, showcasing the community’s unwavering support.
As of now, an impressive €33,390 has been raised, but the clock is ticking. The full-time whistle on this year’s Kickathon will be blown shortly, and Grincell is calling on everyone to contribute during this critical final push.
“If you’re in a position to help somebody, the onus is on you to do something,” Fran stated, highlighting the importance of community support. “It is a huge effort from the family,” he added, praising his family’s role in securing donations.
Soccer club Evergreen described the initiative as a “fantastic endeavour,” noting its impact on the community. “This is a wonderful cause that helps so many,” they remarked, emphasizing the collective effort behind the fundraising.
Grincell expressed his exhaustion but reiterated his commitment: “How do I feel? I’m wrecked, I get tired but I have to do it because I owe it.” His love for the game and the community shines through as he reflects on the experience. “I love kicking ball; I’d kick a ball all day if I could.”
The urgency is palpable as Kilkenny rallies together for this worthy cause. If you want to make a difference, you can DONATE HERE or visit the Kickathon in person each evening until Friday.
This Kickathon not only aims to reach its financial goal but also fosters a sense of unity and support within Kilkenny. The community’s backing serves as a reminder of the power of collective action, especially in times of need.
Stay tuned for the final results as Fran Grincell wraps up this heartfelt initiative. The support from the Kilkenny community has been overwhelming, and every contribution counts!
