Kilkenny’s Katelyn Cummins Honored with Civic Reception After Rose Win
UPDATE: In a significant recognition of achievement, Kilkenny native Katelyn Cummins has been awarded a Civic Reception by Laois County Council following her victory as the Rose of Tralee in August 2023. The special event is scheduled to honor her shortly, with details still to be finalized.
The council’s decision, made at their recent meeting, reflects the community’s pride in Cummins’ accomplishment. Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley formally proposed the honor, which Cllr John King seconded, ensuring that the reception will be a momentous occasion for Cummins, her family, and supporters.
The reception will be held in the council chambers and will include a formal citation detailing Cummins’ contributions and achievements. As a passionate advocate for women in non-traditional careers, Cummins is set to promote alternative pathways, having chosen an electrical apprenticeship as her professional route.
Currently employed at Alpha Drives in Portlaoise, the 20-year-old has already begun her international duties as the Rose of Tralee. Her schedule includes appearances at major events across Ireland, such as Electric Picnic, the National Ploughing Championships, and the Lovely Laois Homecoming Festival.
This Civic Reception not only celebrates Cummins’ title but also symbolizes a broader message about empowerment and opportunity for women in various fields. As she prepares for her upcoming responsibilities, the community eagerly anticipates her contributions on the international stage.
