Limerick Artist Deirdre Dunne’s Exhibition Now Open in Kilmallock

Having spent two years in Africa as a tour guide with her husband Bryce, Dunne draws inspiration from her travels. “When in doubt, paint an elephant!” she humorously noted, highlighting her approach to overcoming creative blocks.

Dunne operates a combined gallery and studio at her home in Kilbehenny, where visitors can experience her artistic process firsthand. “It’s like my own haven,” she described. Although she previously taught art classes at her home, she now conducts fully booked sessions at the Kilbehenny Community Centre.

Despite living in a remote area of Kilbehenny, the couple runs two successful Airbnbs on their property—one a yurt and the other a converted horse truck. Dunne manages her painting schedule around their family life and other business ventures, noting that winter brings a more structured routine for her artistic work.

As the exhibition continues, Dunne is also exploring new mediums. Recently, she began painting on corrugated iron, a project inspired by a call from the Arts Council for submissions for their tent at the upcoming ploughing championships. “The paint went on nicely and organically,” she remarked, enjoying the unique texture of her new canvas.
