Limerick Council Launches Urgent Upgrade to City Public Spaces

URGENT UPDATE: Limerick City and County Council is currently undertaking extensive maintenance and enhancement works to revitalize public spaces throughout the city. This initiative aims to create “a more welcoming, vibrant, and enjoyable urban environment for residents and visitors alike.”
The refurbishment efforts, which are already in progress, focus on improving public spaces along the quays. The Council emphasizes that these upgrades will foster a more enjoyable experience for pedestrians and shoppers alike, significantly enhancing the city’s atmosphere.
In a notable development, the Council is replanting raised flowerbeds on O’Connell Street this month. These enhancements will not only beautify one of Limerick’s busiest thoroughfares but will also contribute to urban biodiversity, bringing fresh colors and life to the area.
Additionally, repainting efforts for park benches in Arthur’s Quay Park are underway. The Council aims to provide “a cleaner, brighter, and more polished look to the park,” making it an even more inviting space for relaxation and recreation.
To further enrich the urban experience, the local authority is reintroducing picnic benches by Shannon Bridge. This scenic riverside location will offer locals and visitors the perfect spot for outdoor dining and socializing, or simply enjoying the picturesque views.
Regular washing of Bedford Row is also part of the plans, along with railing replacements for Sarsfield Bridge. These measures aim to enhance safety while preserving the bridge’s historic character.
Moreover, the Council has initiated cleaning operations at various roundabouts, including those at Vistakon, Kilmurray, Castletroy Park, Garryglass, Tipperary Road, Kilmallock Road, and Roxboro Road. This effort is designed to improve visibility and safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
These developments signify a strong commitment from Limerick City and County Council to enhance the quality of life in the city. With works expected to continue in the coming weeks, residents and visitors can look forward to a transformed urban environment that prioritizes beauty, safety, and enjoyment.
Stay tuned for more updates as this vital project progresses, making Limerick a more inviting destination for all.
