Limerick Pool to Fully Reopen This Friday After Delay
UPDATE: The community of Limerick is set to celebrate as Askeaton Pool & Leisure will fully reopen this Friday, December 5, 2023, following a frustrating delay that left residents and local officials on edge. The announcement comes just days before a formal reopening ceremony led by Minister for Culture, Communications & Sport Patrick O’Donovan next Monday.
This development marks a significant turnaround from the turmoil experienced last month when the pool’s anticipated reopening was abruptly postponed due to incomplete water-quality tests. Local councillors voiced their discontent at the Rathkeale–Adare Municipal District meeting in November, expressing concerns over the late notification of the delay. They were informed merely 72 hours prior to the planned launch, which many argued undermined public trust.
Cllr Adam Teskey highlighted that the lack of timely communication severely affected community confidence. Meanwhile, Cllr Stephen Keary emphasized the local authority’s responsibility to ensure public safety and safeguard the substantial investment made in the facility’s refurbishment.
Now, with the pool’s operational start set for this Friday, anticipation is building for the official reopening ceremony next week. Minister O’Donovan’s visit will also commemorate the completion of major renovations at Grove Island Leisure Centre in Limerick City, signaling a fresh start after weeks of uncertainty.
The appointed operators, Swim Ireland, have confirmed that full details regarding membership options and booking processes are now available on their website. The local authority has expressed gratitude for the public’s patience throughout this challenging period.
Residents are urged to mark their calendars! The reopening signifies not only a return to recreational activities but also a renewed commitment to community health and well-being.
As the clock ticks down to Friday, community members are encouraged to share their excitement and spread the word about the long-awaited reopening of Askeaton Pool & Leisure. This is a pivotal moment for Limerick, demonstrating resilience and community spirit in the face of adversity. Stay tuned for updates and be ready to dive back into the water!
