Limerick Sports Partnership Secures €340,000 Funding Boost NOW
BREAKING: Limerick Sports Partnership (LSP) has just announced a significant funding boost of approximately €340,000 from the 2025 Dormant Accounts Programme. This urgent investment is part of a national effort to enhance community sports and physical activity initiatives across Ireland, directly impacting the lives of countless residents.
Phelim Macken, manager of Limerick Sports Partnership, emphasized the transformative potential of this funding. “Through this funding, we hope that even more people will be able to enjoy the benefits that sports participation and a healthy lifestyle can bring and feel included and welcomed in their communities,” Macken stated, highlighting the inclusive vision behind the initiative.
Of the total allocation, €120,000 is earmarked specifically for Limerick’s Active Cities Initiative. This funding will activate local parks and expand the availability of BoxUp units, which provide free sports equipment access to the community. Additionally, €72,000 will facilitate the extension of Community Sports Hubs in Garryowen and Moyross, along with the establishment of a new hub in Kilmallock.
The funding breakdown also allocates nearly €30,000 for Sports Inclusion Disability Projects, €20,000 for promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, and €12,000 for the Her Moves Initiative, aimed at boosting female participation in sports. Furthermore, €46,000 is designated for the Urban Outdoor Adventure Initiative, alongside €40,000 to support local volunteers.
Minister for Sport, Patrick O’Donovan, announced the funding today, reinforcing the message that “every person should have the opportunity to participate in sport.” He expressed optimism that this funding will open up new opportunities and sports for individuals of all abilities and backgrounds throughout the nation.
This funding announcement comes at a critical time as communities seek to rebound and thrive post-pandemic. The investment not only enhances facilities but also promotes well-being, inclusivity, and community engagement, making a direct impact on the lives of Limerick residents.
As Limerick moves forward with these initiatives, community members are encouraged to participate and take advantage of the new opportunities available. Keep an eye on local updates to see how these developments will shape the future of sports and physical activity in your area.
