The event occurred on the evening of August 24, 2025, around 17:00 local time. All three children, comprising two girls and a boy, have been taken to hospital for treatment.
According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the children were hit as a car was reversing along Black Ridge View. Authorities received reports shortly before the collision, prompting police officers to respond to the scene.
The PSNI confirmed that a 37-year-old man is currently in custody. He faces several charges, including driving with excess alcohol in his breath, causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, and failing to stop, report, and remain at the scene of the incident. The man is being held while investigations continue.
In light of the seriousness of the accident, the PSNI is appealing for witnesses. They urge anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. Individuals can contact the police at Woodbourne on 101, quoting reference number 1201 24/08/25.
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains concerned about the safety of children playing in residential areas. The incident has raised awareness regarding road safety and the importance of careful driving, particularly in areas frequented by pedestrians.
