Man, Teen Charged in Violent Citywest Disturbances; Court Update
UPDATE: A 42-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with violent disorder following significant disturbances in Saggart, Co Dublin on the night of October 22. This urgent situation has escalated tensions in the area, prompting immediate court appearances.
During a court session earlier today, Judge Paula Murphy remanded the teenager on bail, contingent on strict conditions that include staying away from both Citywest and Saggart, as well as all International Protection Accommodation Services centers. He is ordered not to engage in any violent protests or demonstrations and is scheduled to return to court in six weeks.
In contrast, bail was denied for the second accused, Thomas Dillon, who was taken into custody after allegedly participating in a large, aggressive crowd that gathered outside Citywest. The court was informed that Dillon was seen throwing items and launching fireworks at Gardaí, leading to his arrest due to “highly aggressive and confrontational behaviour” with multiple threats to harm. He will remain in custody and is set to appear in court again on the morning of October 31.
These developments come amidst heightened public concern regarding safety and order in the area. Gardaí have expressed serious worries about the implications of such disturbances, particularly in relation to ongoing protests. The situation remains fluid as authorities continue to monitor developments closely.
Residents of Saggart and nearby areas are advised to stay vigilant as law enforcement ramps up their presence in response to these incidents. Expect further updates as the situation unfolds and additional court sessions take place.
Stay tuned for breaking news and further developments in this urgent case.
