Massive Peruvian Tall Ship BAP Unió n Docks in Dublin for Public Tours

A striking tall ship from the Peruvian Navy, the BAP Unió n, is docking in Dublin this weekend, offering locals the chance to explore its impressive features until Monday, March 18, 2024. As one of the largest and most visually captivating training vessels in the world, the ship aims to foster stronger connections in trade, tourism, investment, and cultural exchanges during its European tour.
The BAP Unió n is a four-masted barque that measures 115 meters in length and stands 53.5 meters tall at its highest mast. Built over three years and launched only a decade ago, this steel-hulled vessel serves not only as a training ship for approximately 250 crew members, including 71 cadets, but also as a floating embassy for Peru, enhancing diplomatic relations with host nations.
Public Access and Special Services
During its stay at Berth 47 in Dublin Port, the ship will be open to the public for onboard exhibitions. Visitors can tour the vessel on Saturday from 14:00 to 17:00, on Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, and on Monday from 10:00 to 12:00. To facilitate access, a free shuttle bus service will run every 20 minutes from the bus stop at Sean Moore Road to the ship’s docking location.
This visit follows a successful tour through several European countries, including the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. After departing from Dublin, the BAP Unió n will set sail for Vigo, Spain, before returning to Peru.
The arrival of the BAP Unió n not only showcases Peru’s rich maritime heritage but also highlights the importance of international cooperation and friendship through cultural exchange. The public is encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to engage with the vessel and its crew.
