Minister Opens New Autism Classes at Glenmore National School
URGENT UPDATE: Glenmore National School in South Kilkenny has just opened two new autism classes in a significant move to address the pressing need for educational support for children with autism. Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, Michael Moynihan, officiated the ceremonial opening on September 25, 2025, marking a pivotal moment for the local community.
The new classes are already at full capacity, with students commuting from as far as Waterford. This initiative comes as schools across the region struggle to meet the growing demand for autism placements. The swift response by Glenmore National School illustrates a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in education.
Principal Laura Kelly expressed her enthusiasm: “We are absolutely delighted to have been given the opportunity to open two autism classes here in our school. We believe that positivity and inclusivity go hand in hand, and here in Glenmore N.S., our children experience both.” This sentiment underscores the impact these classes have on fostering relationships among students.
The addition of these classes is transforming not just the lives of the students but the entire school community. “Due to our small class sizes, all the children know each other really well, and relationships are being formed for all pupils throughout the school,” Kelly added. The school’s motto, “Ar scath a cheile, a mhaireann na daoine,” meaning “Together we thrive,” has never felt more relevant.
As the school year progresses, the demand for such inclusive educational environments is expected to surge. Glenmore National School’s proactive approach may serve as a model for other institutions facing similar challenges.
WHAT’S NEXT: The positive reception of these new autism classes raises the question: How can other schools replicate this success? Parents and educators will be closely watching Glenmore National School’s ongoing developments as they seek to create similar opportunities across Kilkenny and beyond.
Stay tuned for more updates on this important initiative as it unfolds. Share this news to spread awareness of the vital steps being taken for education inclusivity in your community!
