Molly Martens Crashes Car Weeks After Husband’s Death

URGENT UPDATE: New details reveal that Molly Martens allegedly crashed her car in Knoxville, Tennessee while reportedly “out of it,” just weeks after the tragic death of her husband, Jason Corbett. This incident occurred in late August 2015, following the couple’s brutal altercation that left Corbett dead.

Witnesses reported that Martens, aged 40 at the time, drove through an intersection and collided with her parents’ neighbor’s brick mailbox. The crash took place less than a month after both she and her father, Tom Martens, were implicated in the murder of Corbett, who was killed on August 2, 2015.

According to court documents, shortly after the accident, Martens’ parents arrived at the scene and persuaded witnesses not to contact law enforcement. The investigation into this incident was prompted four months later when detectives in North Carolina began looking into the circumstances surrounding Corbett’s death.

Corbett, a 39-year-old from Limerick, Ireland, was fatally beaten in his home with a baseball bat and a brick. Both Martens and her father falsely claimed self-defense during the incident. They were convicted of second-degree murder in 2017, but that verdict was later overturned, leading to a plea deal for voluntary manslaughter. They served less than five years in prison before being released in 2024.

The car crash incident was brought to detectives’ attention in January 2016, when a nurse reported seeing Martens “blast through an intersection.” The nurse described Martens as appearing “out of it,” noting her “glassy” eyes. Despite the nurse’s strong suggestion to contact the police, Martens and her family insisted on handling the situation privately.

Witness Stephen Eimers recounted that Martens expressed concerns about police involvement. Detectives’ notes indicate that this incident added significant weight to the case against her and her father, as it highlighted a pattern of problematic behavior.

This crash occurred just 11 days after Martens lost custody of Corbett’s children, Jack, then 10, and Sarah, 8, who were placed in the care of Corbett’s sister, Tracey Lynch, following their father’s death. Martens reportedly spoke about her distress over the children’s custody during the incident.

As new information unfolds, the implications of this earlier incident may continue to impact the public perception of Molly and Tom Martens. Authorities are continuing their investigations, and further developments are anticipated as this tragic story evolves.
