URGENT UPDATE: A motorcyclist in his 40s has tragically died in a hospital following a severe crash with a van in Co Louth last Friday. The collision occurred at approximately 7:10 AM on August 29, 2025, at John Street on the Dublin Road in Drogheda, leaving him with critical injuries.

The victim was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital immediately after the incident but was pronounced dead just two days later, on August 31. Gardai have confirmed that investigations into the crash are ongoing and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said, “Gardaí in Drogheda continue to investigate a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a van and a motorcycle.” They are specifically seeking any road users who may have captured the incident on dash-cam footage. Authorities request those with footage from the area of the Bull Ring and John Street between 7:00 AM and 7:10 AM to submit it to assist in their investigation.

As the investigation progresses, Gardai are urging the public not to share distressing images or videos related to the crash on social media, emphasizing the impact such sharing can have on the victim’s family. “Members of the public are strongly urged not to share this material out of respect for the deceased and their family,” they stated.

This tragic event is compounded by another recent incident in Co Cork, where Veronica Hoen, a 61-year-old prison educator, died in a single-vehicle crash on August 25. Ms. Hoen was known for her contributions to the Visual Arts in Prison Scheme and was deeply mourned by family and friends. President Michael D Higgins honored her legacy at an exhibition opening, highlighting her impact on the arts community.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these tragic events, the community remains in shock. The loss of life in both incidents serves as a somber reminder of the dangers present on our roads.
