Munster’s Scrum Reinforcement: Alaalatoa Joins Ahead of Bath Clash
UPDATE: Munster is set to face Bath on July 15, 2023, as they look to rebound from a tough scrummaging lesson delivered by the Stormers. The stakes are high as Munster’s defensive coach, Denis Leamy, emphasizes the urgent need to address set-piece vulnerabilities ahead of this crucial match at The Rec.
Last weekend, Munster fans at Thomond Park witnessed their team struggle, conceding penalties under pressure from a powerful South African scrum. As Munster prepares to face Bath, Leamy is bracing for an intense challenge, predicting that Bath will target what they perceive as weaknesses in Munster’s scrummaging.
“The game is ruthless, and Bath will come harder at us in that area,” Leamy stated. “We’re well aware of that, and the boys are prepping hard.”
With Bath’s formidable front row led by Springbok tighthead Thomas du Toit, Leamy knows that Munster’s pack must step up to the challenge. He expressed confidence that Munster can improve their scrum performance after last week’s disappointing display, noting that the team feels capable of making necessary adjustments.
“We just felt we were beaten to the punch a lot,” Leamy admitted. “There are controllables, and things we can do better. We have set ourselves a challenge to be better in that area.”
In a significant boost for Munster’s scrum, Jean Kleyn is expected to return after his strong performance in South Africa’s recent 73-0 victory over Wales. Additionally, new signing Michael Alaalatoa joins the squad, bringing extensive experience from his time with the Waratahs, Crusaders, Leinster, and Clermont.
Leamy praised Alaalatoa’s potential impact on Munster’s performance, stating, “Michael’s a very experienced international player. He’s a great acquisition and can change pictures off the bench or whether he starts.”
As Munster gears up for this crucial match against Bath, fans are eager to see how these key changes in the lineup will influence their performance. The game is set to be a pivotal moment for the squad, with both teams looking to assert their dominance in the competition.
Stay tuned for live updates as Munster prepares for a critical showdown against Bath this Saturday. With the stakes higher than ever, every play counts in the pursuit of victory.
