New Athenry Train Service Launches Amid Major Upgrades
UPDATE: A new temporary train service between Athenry and Galway City has officially launched today, marking a significant transportation enhancement as major upgrades are underway at both Ceannt Station and Oranmore train station. The first train departed at 6:50 AM this morning, providing commuters with a vital link that will remain operational until next August.
Major works are currently taking place, including the construction of a new underpass that will facilitate a second platform at Oranmore. Additionally, a new platform 5 is being developed at Ceannt Station, with completion expected over the upcoming October Bank Holiday weekend. This upgrade is crucial for improving service efficiency and accommodating increasing passenger numbers.
As a result of these developments, bus services will be in place during the holiday weekend to ensure seamless travel for passengers impacted by the ongoing construction.
Authorities from Iarnród Éireann expressed their excitement about reaching these significant milestones, stating, “Our Galway Ceannt Station and Oranmore projects are making great progress this month!” They emphasized that the improvements are designed to enhance the overall travel experience for commuters.
The new train service is expected to alleviate congestion and provide better access to Galway’s bustling city center, making it easier for residents and visitors to navigate the area.
Passengers are encouraged to check the latest updates from Transport for Ireland and the Department of Transport for any changes due to construction activities.
As these developments unfold, commuters can look forward to improved connectivity and enhanced facilities, making this an exciting time for public transportation in the region. Stay tuned for more updates!
