URGENT UPDATE: A no fly zone has been declared over Stradbally Hall as the Electric Picnic festival kicks off this weekend, with thousands of attendees arriving early. The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has imposed a Temporary Restricted Area (TRA) from 5 AM on August 27 until 8 AM on September 2, restricting all aircraft, including drones, in the vicinity.

The TRA is designed to ensure the safety of both festival-goers and aircraft operating in the area during this busy period. The IAA’s announcement comes as thousands of campers are expected to settle in for the three-day festival, heightening concerns over airspace safety.

According to the IAA, the no fly zone will have limited exceptions. State aircraft, Irish Coastguard Service, and HEMS aircraft conducting operational missions are permitted to fly within the TRA. All other aircraft must obtain specific authorization from the festival organizers, EP Republic Ltd, to operate in this restricted airspace.

Authorities have emphasized strict enforcement of the no fly zone. Any Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), including drones and rockets, operating without explicit permission may be subject to seizure by An Garda Síochána for potential prosecution, reinforcing the seriousness of aviation safety during the festival.

As the festival unfolds, the IAA aims to mitigate risks associated with increased air traffic. With the forecast indicating potential weather disruptions from ex-tropical Storm Fernand, attendees are advised to stay informed about safety regulations and advisories.

The Electric Picnic is known for its vibrant atmosphere and large crowds, making the enforcement of this no fly zone essential for public safety. As festival-goers prepare for a weekend of music and festivities, the IAA’s proactive measures aim to ensure a secure environment for all.

Stay tuned for further updates on the Electric Picnic festival and related safety announcements.
