Over 200 Residents Celebrate First Cairn Community Games in Dublin
The inaugural Cairn Community Games ‘Play Day’ took place on Sunday, October 5, 2023, in Seven Mills, Dublin’s newest town. This community-focused event attracted over 200 residents, including around 100 children, who gathered in the town centre to celebrate the vibrant spirit of the Cairn Community Games.
Participants enjoyed a variety of activities designed to engage all ages and interests. The day featured creative pursuits such as model making, dance classes, and arts and crafts. Sports enthusiasts had the chance to participate in an obstacle course, ball skills challenges, and basketball games, along with athletics. Importantly, all activities were non-competitive, fostering an inclusive environment that encouraged everyone to join in.
Seven Mills is part of a significant housing project by Cairn, situated between Lucan and Clondalkin along the Grand Canal. Once fully completed, the development will accommodate over 15,000 residents, with current occupancy at approximately 2,500 residents. The project also plans to include eight new schools and ten creches, ensuring that essential services and amenities are within a five-minute walk for all families.
Tom Noonan, Head of Marketing at Cairn, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are delighted to host the first ever Cairn Community Games event at Seven Mills. Cairn Community Games and Seven Mills represent the best of everything that we stand for as a company.” He emphasized Cairn’s commitment to building sustainable, diverse, and inclusive communities where residents can thrive. Noonan highlighted the significance of the event in fostering community spirit, saying, “It means a lot to us as a home and community builder that we can bring the spirit of Cairn Community Games to Seven Mills and help residents make memories together that they can cherish for years to come.”
Founded in 1967, Community Games operates as a grassroots organization, thriving in over 420 towns and villages throughout the Republic of Ireland. The initiative aims to provide opportunities for young people aged 6 to 16 years to cultivate active and healthy lifestyles within a safe environment. Through a wide range of sporting and cultural activities, the Community Games ensure there is something for every participant, regardless of their interests or abilities.
The success of the Cairn Community Games ‘Play Day’ not only marks a significant milestone for the Seven Mills community but also sets a precedent for future events aimed at fostering connection and engagement among residents. As the community continues to grow, initiatives like these will play a crucial role in shaping a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.
