Passengers Injured as Flight Drops 4,400ft in Turbulence Horror

URGENT UPDATE: A United Express flight operated by SkyWest has been forced to make an emergency landing after a terrifying drop of 4,400 feet in just seconds left passengers injured, some reportedly ‘bleeding’. The incident occurred on Thursday, August 28, as the flight was approaching Austin, Texas, bound for Houston.
Witnesses onboard described a chaotic scene filled with panic. The turbulence hit 90 minutes into the flight, causing the aircraft to plummet rapidly. One passenger was thrown against the ceiling, while personal belongings flew around the cabin. Oxygen masks deployed as the aircraft entered a severe descent, alarming those on board.
In a recording of the air traffic control communication, the pilot urgently stated:
“We’re going to need a stretcher and there is bleeding as well. SkyWest 5971.”
The plane shifted course toward Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, descending more than 25,000 feet within six minutes to reach safety.
Emergency services were on standby upon landing, where 39 passengers and 4 crew members were evaluated by medical teams. Two individuals were transported to local hospitals, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. An airport spokesperson confirmed, “Our highest priority is the safety and well-being of all onboard.”
This incident highlights the growing concerns surrounding severe turbulence, which impacts approximately one in every 50,000 flights. Just last May, an incident involving a Singapore Airlines flight resulted in the tragic death of a passenger after severe turbulence caused a similar emergency.
As authorities investigate the incident, travelers are urged to remain aware of potential turbulence and adhere to safety protocols. The aviation community will be closely monitoring this situation for further developments. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
