Planners Approve New 37-Unit Apartment Complex in Limerick

UPDATE: Planners have just approved a significant new apartment complex in Limerick, set to transform the city’s housing landscape. Cadima Holdings received the green light for a six-storey development at 47 to 50 Parnell Street, directly across from Limerick Colbert Station. Construction is expected to commence within the next six months.
This project will introduce 37 apartments to the market, with a focus on meeting urgent housing demands. Of these, 26 will be single-bedroom units, catering to the growing need for affordable living spaces in the city. The remaining apartments will feature two bedrooms, further diversifying the housing options available.
The site was previously home to derelict units before they were demolished last year to make way for this ambitious mixed-use development. The ground floor will house two commercial units, enhancing local business opportunities alongside residential living.
Adam Kearney, representing Cadima Holdings, emphasized the pressing demand for one-bedroom units in Limerick, a sentiment echoed during pre-planning discussions with local council staff. He stated, “Building apartments is now an established response to the housing crisis and the shortage of residential accommodation.”
This development marks a notable shift in Limerick’s urban landscape, as it utilizes a brownfield site in close proximity to the city center. Kearney noted that the proposed scheme is a “positive response” to ongoing regeneration efforts in the area, addressing both public and private sector needs.
In a previous proposal from 2021, permission was granted for 34 new apartments on the same site, indicating a growing commitment to increase housing availability. The latest approval includes an additional three apartments, reflecting the urgent need for more living spaces in the city.
As part of the planning process, the approval came with 14 conditions to ensure compliance with local regulations and standards. Residents and stakeholders are now eager to see how this development will unfold, as it promises to play a crucial role in alleviating the housing shortage in Limerick.
With construction on the horizon, this project is set to reshape the community and provide much-needed homes. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
