Police Helicopter Chases Dangerous Biker Feet Above Ground

URGENT UPDATE: A police helicopter has been caught on video pursuing a man riding an allegedly stolen motorbike in St Helens, Merseyside, just feet above the ground. The dramatic chase unfolded on August 13 and has since gone viral, highlighting the extreme dangers posed by reckless driving.
Footage shows the helicopter hovering dangerously low as it trails the speeding rider, who was reportedly driving in an “extremely dangerous” manner. The pilot maneuvered the dark blue and yellow aircraft just meters above the ground, attempting to keep pace with the motorcyclist as he sped through fields and around trees. At one point, the helicopter flew parallel to the bike, intensifying the heart-pounding visuals of the chase.
As the chase unfolded, the motorcyclist was seen mounting pavements and nearly colliding with pedestrians. He was not alone; a second man joined him, and both fled from officers along the A580 road and across open fields near a dam. Authorities report that the pair’s reckless behavior endangered countless lives, prompting urgent police response.
The incident culminated when the motorcyclist reportedly ran out of fuel, leading to his arrest soon after. His bike has been seized by authorities. A police officer on the ground was captured in the footage, as the helicopter continued its surveillance overhead.
Chief Superintendent Fiona Gaffney, Chief Operating Officer at the National Police Air Service (NPAS), stated, “We’re aware of the video currently circulating on social media and the level of public interest it has generated.” She confirmed that an internal review is underway in consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure all safety procedures were followed.
This high-octane incident is part of a broader conversation about the future of police aviation. As technology advances, NPAS is exploring the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, including the Schiebel Camcopter S-100, capable of flying at speeds of up to 115 mph for extended periods. These drones could revolutionize policing strategies, allowing for safer and more efficient surveillance.
As investigations continue, communities are urged to reflect on the serious implications of reckless driving and the potential for technology to enhance public safety. The video of the chase remains a striking reminder of the risks involved in such dangerous behaviors on the road.
