URGENT UPDATE: A status red weather warning has been issued for Donegal as Storm Amy makes landfall. The warning is effective from 4 PM to 6 PM today, with Met Éireann forecasting extremely strong winds that could lead to significant hazards, including fallen trees and power outages.
Officials are stressing the potential for structural damage and dangerous travel conditions. In addition to Donegal, six other counties in the west and northwest are under a status orange warning for high winds, while Galway and Kerry face a status yellow alert for rain.
Keith Leonard, National Director of Fire and Emergency Management, is urging residents to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety. “The winds are expected to be hazardous, and we advise everyone to stay indoors if possible,” Leonard stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The impact of Storm Amy is already being felt across the region, with reports of strong gusts affecting power lines and transportation networks. Authorities are mobilizing resources to respond to any incidents resulting from the severe weather.
As the storm progresses, residents are advised to stay updated on local news and heed all safety advisories. This situation is developing rapidly, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Stay safe, Donegal, and prepare for the worst as Storm Amy approaches.
