Rory’s Bar Removes VIP Sign After Entitled Guests Misbehave
UPDATE: Rory Gallagher, owner of Rory’s Live Lounge in Lanzarote, has taken decisive action by removing a controversial VIP sign from his bar after several guests misinterpreted it as an invitation to act entitled. The sign, once a humorous relic from the venue’s past as a nightclub, has sparked unexpected behavior among patrons, prompting Gallagher to act swiftly.
In a post on social media earlier today, Gallagher shared his frustration over the situation. “A wee personal joke that got out of hand!” he stated. The sign, which had been left in place as a light-hearted nod to the venue’s history, became a point of contention for some guests who began to treat staff with disrespect. “Some people started acting entitled, actually talking down to our lovely staff,” Gallagher explained, recounting instances of patrons snapping their fingers and demanding service.
The decision to remove the sign comes just six months after Gallagher took over the bar, which was previously a Spanish nightclub. “When we took on Rory’s Live Lounge, I said, ‘Leave it there for the craic; we can make a joke out of it!’” he recalled. However, the unintended consequences of this decision led to a growing sense of entitlement among a few guests, which Gallagher found unacceptable.
Expressing his dismay, Gallagher referenced cultural icons like Kurt Cobain, George Orwell, and John Lennon, highlighting his disdain for the “plastic celebrity capitalist flaunting” that some individuals exhibited. “I woke up this morning in Roy Keane mode and just tore it off the wall!” he declared, emphasizing the need for respect and humility in the hospitality industry.
The removal of the sign has transformed the space into a more welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. “It is now a nice chilled little speakeasy snug area down the back,” Gallagher noted, indicating that the bar will continue to prioritize a friendly environment for all patrons.
This latest development at Rory’s Live Lounge serves as a reminder of the importance of respect in social settings, especially in an era where entitlement can overshadow genuine hospitality. As Gallagher continues to manage his venue, it will be interesting to see how this incident influences the dynamics at Rory’s bar going forward.
