RTÉ Unveils Major Revamp of Ireland’s Fittest Family with New Coaches

UPDATE: RTÉ has just announced a major revamp of Ireland’s Fittest Family, set to return in Autumn 2025/Spring 2026. This season promises the most significant shake-up yet, featuring three new dynamic coaches joining the beloved competition.
The show will welcome Paralympian Ellen Keane, GAA footballer Michael Darragh MacAuley, and rugby star Andrew Trimble to its coaching lineup. They’ll join veteran coaches Davy Fitzgerald, Anna Geary, and Donnacha O’Callaghan, making for an exciting mix of talent and experience.
Ellen Keane, a celebrated gold medalist in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, is no stranger to RTÉ, having dazzled audiences on Dancing with the Stars in 2022. Her addition to the show marks a significant milestone in her post-athletic career, showcasing her versatility and commitment to inspiring others.
Joining her is Michael Darragh MacAuley, an eight-time All-Ireland winner with the Dublin GAA team. Since his retirement, MacAuley has taken on the role of CEO at Sanctuary Runners, focusing on community integration and social impact through sport. His leadership experience will bring a unique perspective to the show.
Andrew Trimble, known for his impressive rugby career, has also signed on. The former Ulster and Ireland winger achieved a remarkable 229 caps for Ulster and 70 caps for the national team. Since retiring, he has transitioned into the tech industry, co-founding Kairos, a sports scheduling platform, which adds a modern flair to his coaching style.
Returning coach Anna Geary, who is currently expecting her second child, hinted at the exciting changes in store during an interview with the RTE Guide. “Never before has what is about to happen, happened on the show,” Geary teased. “There are big changes, big twists, you’re going to see a changed format, new locations. Oh my God! It’s going to completely shake things up.”
Viewers can expect a fresh format that will challenge both contestants and coaches alike. RTÉ has yet to confirm an exact release date, but the show is slated for a return in the highly anticipated autumn schedule.
As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how these changes will unfold and what new challenges await contestants. Keep an eye on RTÉ for further updates as the launch date approaches and get ready for a thrilling season of Ireland’s Fittest Family.
