Scottie Scheffler secured a thrilling victory at the BMW Championship held at Caves Valley, overcoming a four-shot deficit to defeat Scotland’s Bob MacIntyre. A remarkable chip-in at the 17th hole proved pivotal, allowing Scheffler to finish the tournament with a total score of 15 under par after a final round of 67. This win marks Scheffler’s fifth title of the season on the PGA Tour and his twelfth victory since March 2024, a period that includes three Major championships and an Olympic gold medal.

Scheffler’s consistency has been notable, as he has not finished outside the top 10 since the Players Championship in March. He is now the first golfer since Tiger Woods to win five or more tournaments in consecutive seasons, a feat last accomplished in 2006-07.

MacIntyre’s performance faltered early in the tournament, as he bogeyed the first two holes and did not register a birdie until the 16th. His final score of 73 left him two strokes behind Scheffler. Despite missing several makeable putts, including a surprising three-putt from 17 feet on the 14th, Scheffler’s resilience shone through. The highlight of his round was a miraculous chip-in from the rough at the 17th, reminiscent of some of Woods’ most iconic moments.

Lowry and McIlroy Secure Tour Championship Spots

Shane Lowry also made headlines by comfortably qualifying for the PGA Tour’s season-ending Tour Championship for only the second time in his career. He posted a final round of three-under-par 67, which included four birdies and a single bogey. Lowry excelled on the greens, topping the strokes gained statistics by holing 110 feet worth of putts. His performance propelled him into the top 25 of the tournament and secured his 24th position in the FedEx Cup standings, with the top 30 players advancing to East Lake.

Rory McIlroy, who began the FedEx Cup playoffs in second place, maintained his position despite a mixed performance at the BMW Championship. After facing consecutive double bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes, McIlroy rallied with five birdies from the ninth hole, finishing with a level-par round of 70. His total score for the tournament was three under par, providing him with optimism heading into the Tour Championship, where he has previously secured three victories.

“I wasn’t expecting much to be in contention after three weeks off, but there were glimmers of really good stuff in there this week,” McIlroy said. “I found a bit of a groove over those last nine holes. It is certainly something to build off going into the Tour Championship next week.”

Penge Claims Victory at Danish Golf Championship

In other golfing news, Rasmus Højgaard faced disappointment at the Danish Golf Championship, where he relinquished a four-shot lead to Marco Penge on the DP World Tour. Højgaard began the final round with a one-shot advantage but encountered difficulties, including a double bogey on the ninth hole after failing to reach the green from a greenside bunker. Despite making an impressive eagle on the 18th, he finished just one stroke behind Penge, who secured victory with a score of 16 under par after a final round of four-under-par 67.

Penge expressed his satisfaction with the win, stating, “I’ve been playing so well this year. My team has been a massive support for me, and it’s made me keep striving for more.” This victory has moved Penge to 14th in the Ryder Cup rankings, enhancing his chances of making the team.

In amateur golf, Stuart Grehan made history by winning the AIG Irish Amateur Close Championship in Wesport. He follows in the footsteps of notable Irish golfers, completing the double of the Irish Amateur Open and Irish Close, a rare achievement in the sport.
