Severe Thunderstorms and Spot Floods Forecast for Today in Ulster

URGENT UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms and potential spot flooding are expected today across Ulster, as confirmed by Met Éireann. Residents should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions, including heavy showers and thundery rain, which could lead to localized flooding in vulnerable areas.
Forecasts indicate that today will begin with sunny spells, but those will quickly give way to frequent heavy showers. The most significant threat arises as these showers merge into longer periods of thundery rain, particularly impacting Atlantic counties. Winds will be strong along the coast, with gusts expected to disrupt outdoor activities and travel.
Temperatures will peak between 16 to 19 degrees Celsius, providing a brief respite before conditions worsen tonight. Heavy showers will again scatter across the region, merging into more prolonged thundery rain, accompanied by lightning and the potential for spot flooding, especially in western areas. Overnight lows are projected to drop to 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, a low-pressure system will move in, bringing even more blustery southwesterly winds and an increase in rainfall. This shift will likely result in further disruptions, with continued chances for local flooding and thunderstorm activity. Maximum temperatures will cool slightly, reaching only 15 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Residents are urged to stay tuned to official weather updates and exercise caution during travel, as conditions can change rapidly. This is a developing situation, and authorities will provide further guidance as the weather progresses.
Stay safe and informed as these severe weather patterns unfold!
