Shane Lowry Grants Dream Wish to 11-Year-Old Cancer Survivor

URGENT UPDATE: In a heartwarming moment at The K Club, Shane Lowry granted a life-changing wish to 11-year-old Dáire Coyle, who is currently in remission from acute myeloid leukaemia. This emotional meeting took place yesterday, just before the Amgen Irish Open kicked off, marking a significant event for both the young golfer and his family.
Dáire, hailing from Co Louth, received his first set of golf clubs from Santa last Christmas and has been dedicatedly practicing with his father. His dream came true when he played the ninth hole alongside Lowry during the Pro-Am event. “This wish has meant the absolute world to Dáire, who gave it an 11 out of 10,” his father, David Coyle, expressed with overwhelming gratitude.
The meeting was organized by Make-A-Wish Ireland, highlighting their commitment to creating memorable experiences for children facing serious health challenges. Dáire’s family, including his mother Orla and brothers Eoin (16) and Donal (13), were treated to a luxurious stay at the Westgrove Hotel in Clane, where they received a surprise hamper filled with golf-themed goodies.
Mr. Coyle shared, “Meeting Shane Lowry has been a dream come true. Golf is a big thing for our family, and without Make-A-Wish, we never would have had this opportunity. We were treated like royalty from beginning to end.” The joy on Dáire’s face was a reminder of the impact such moments can have on families navigating difficult times.
Susan McQuaid O’Dwyer, chief executive of Make-A-Wish Ireland, stated, “The resilience shown by children like Dáire inspires us all. A wish is so much more than a single moment – it brings joy, hope, and treasured memories to the whole family.” She extended her gratitude to Shane Lowry, the DP World Tour, and Amgen for making this extraordinary wish possible.
As the Amgen Irish Open unfolds, fans can look forward to seeing leading golfers like Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry competing over the next four days, but the highlight remains the inspiring encounter between Lowry and Dáire. This touching moment will resonate long after the final putt is made, showcasing the power of hope and community support in the face of adversity.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story and the ongoing events at the Amgen Irish Open, where stories of resilience and inspiration continue to emerge.
