South Belfast Boutique Hotel Completes €8M Renovation, Creating 40 Jobs
Regency House, a boutique guesthouse located in South Belfast, has successfully completed an extensive restoration project valued at £7 million (€8.1 million), leading to the creation of 40 new jobs. This significant development marks the third phase of a broader initiative aimed at revitalizing historic buildings along Botanic Avenue.
The restoration spans four floors across two Grade II listed Georgian terrace buildings situated at 14 and 15 Upper Crescent. The project has added approximately 7,275 square feet to the property, enhancing its appeal and functionality. The guesthouse now features eight new bedrooms, complementing its existing inventory of six one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites located at 11 and 12 Upper Crescent.
In addition to expanding accommodations, the renovation introduces a ground-floor restaurant and a first-floor bar and lounge, named The Drawing Room. This space offers all-day dining, catering to both overnight guests and local patrons. Another highlight of the renovation is the new fitness and wellness suite, equipped with BLK BOX and Peloton equipment, alongside amenities such as a hot tub, sauna, and cold plunge pool.
Nicholas Forsythe, general manager of Regency House, expressed excitement about the project’s completion, stating, “We are thrilled to be unveiling the third phase of this milestone project. From the very start, we had an ambitious vision to not only restore these historic properties but also to rejuvenate this area of the city, which, despite its rich history, had fallen into disrepair.”
Katie Jackson, director of finance and operations, echoed Forsythe’s sentiments, praising the collaborative effort that brought the vision to fruition. “Through the endless support and tireless work of the entire project team, we are so proud to have achieved what we set out to do back in 2020, and as a result, create a truly unique five-star experience in the heart of Belfast,” she said.
The successful completion of this restoration not only enriches the local hospitality landscape but also contributes to the economic development of the area by providing new job opportunities. The project reflects a growing trend of investing in historical properties to promote tourism and enhance community engagement.
As Regency House moves forward, there is anticipation regarding future developments and further contributions to the cultural and economic fabric of Belfast. The project stands as a testament to the potential of revitalizing historic sites while delivering modern amenities and services to visitors and residents alike.
