Stag Beheaded in North Dublin Park: Police Launch Urgent Probe
BREAKING: A shocking wildlife crime has unfolded in north County Dublin, where a stag was found beheaded in Newbridge House and Gardens. Gardaí are investigating this brutal incident that authorities describe as “premeditated,” which occurred in the early hours of October 12, 2023.
The horrifying discovery was made by a farmer, Vinny, who noticed the absence of the stag while tending to a herd of 16 Irish red deer that have inhabited the parklands for over two decades. Upon inspection, he found the dismembered body of the stag in a ditch, with its head missing.
Ivan Smith, the foreman of works at Newbridge House, expressed the shock felt by staff at the tourist site. “The deer would come over, but Vinny noticed there was no sign of the stag,” he explained. “He walked the perimeter of the enclosure and made the grim discovery.”
Officials are treating this incident with utmost seriousness. The National Parks and Wildlife Service has launched its own investigation, while Fingal County Council has called for public assistance, urging anyone with information to contact Gardaí or the wildlife service. The head of communications for Fingal County Council, Gerry McDermott, stated, “We believe this was premeditated and we are appealing to anyone who noticed anything in the area to come forward.”
Security measures at the parklands are currently under review as authorities express deep concern over the safety of wildlife in the area. The red deer, which include this stag, are the largest native deer species in Ireland, with mature stags often targeted by hunters for their impressive antlers.
As this investigation unfolds, it raises urgent questions about wildlife protection and public safety. The emotional impact on the local community and wildlife enthusiasts is palpable, with many expressing outrage over the brutal act.
Stay tuned for further updates as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice. This incident not only highlights the vulnerability of wildlife but also the need for increased security in popular public spaces.
