Storm Amy Leaves 49,000 Homes Without Power in Ireland
UPDATE: Storm Amy has wreaked havoc across Ireland, leaving 49,000 homes, farms, and businesses without power today, according to ESB Networks. The storm’s impact is most severe in counties Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway, and Mayo, where restoration efforts are ongoing under challenging conditions.
ESB crews have been working tirelessly overnight to restore electricity, and while more than two-thirds of those affected have had their power restored, a significant number still remain in the dark. Authorities anticipate that the majority of remaining outages will be resolved by tomorrow night. However, residents in Donegal and other northwest areas may face prolonged outages, potentially lasting into the early part of next week.
Amid the chaos, safety is paramount. The public is strongly advised to exercise caution around fallen wires and damaged electrical equipment, as these hazards remain live and extremely dangerous.
For updates on power restoration, customers can utilize ESB’s “Keep Me Updated” service, available through the powercheck platform. ESB extends its gratitude to the public for their patience as crews continue their critical work to restore power safely.
Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
