Storm Amy Leaves 50,000 Without Power as Cleanup Efforts Begin
UPDATE: Nearly 50,000 ESB customers remain without power across Ireland this afternoon as cleanup efforts commence following the devastation of Storm Amy. This number has drastically decreased from 184,000 customers affected at the storm’s peak on Friday.
Most residents are expected to have their power restored by Sunday night, however, some will face delays, with outages lingering into early next week. Areas hardest hit include Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway, and Mayo.
The situation turned tragic in Donegal, where a local man identified as Tommy Connors died after a suspected fall from a shed roof. His body has been transported to Letterkenny University Hospital for a post-mortem examination. This incident underscores the severe risks posed by the storm’s aftermath.
Authorities are actively conducting damage assessments amid reports of “significant damage” across the region. The National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management urges communities to cooperate with local officials as they work to clear roads and respond to various emergencies.
As cleanup efforts begin, images of the storm’s impact reveal the extent of destruction across affected areas. Residents and local authorities are working together to restore normalcy, but challenges remain.
Stay tuned for further updates as recovery efforts continue and the full extent of the damage is assessed.
