Students Shine in Thrilling Forest School Experience in Limerick
UPDATE: Excitement filled MARTINSTOWN National School as students participated in an engaging three-day Forest School program delivered by Seedling Nature Schools. The sessions, held earlier this week, provided pupils with hands-on outdoor activities that sparked creativity and exploration.
Children enthusiastically took part in nature hunts, crafted clay creations, and engaged in the Japanese art of Tataki Zome, where flowers and leaves were hammered onto fabric to release their natural dyes. This immersive experience not only enriched their learning but also made a lasting impact on their connection to nature.
Lisa Kirby, the acting principal, expressed her delight, stating, “It was a joy to see the children so immersed in nature – exploring, experimenting, and enjoying every moment.” She emphasized how outdoor learning fosters resilience and the freedom to take risks in a safe environment.
Students proudly showcased their creations, adding clay pieces to the school garden, symbolizing their lasting mark on the space. Many crafted bracelets and necklaces from beads, which they cherished as special keepsakes to share with friends and family. One enthusiastic senior infant pupil declared it was “the best day ever!”
This initiative highlights the importance of outdoor education in schools and the positive effects it has on students’ growth and emotional well-being. The innovative approach by Johanna and Claire, the visiting Forest School educators, opened new avenues for discovery and adventure, reinforcing the value of engaging with the environment in meaningful ways.
With such impressive feedback and enthusiasm from the students, this program serves as a model for other schools seeking to enhance their outdoor learning experiences. As the educational landscape evolves, the success of these sessions may inspire similar initiatives across the region, encouraging more children to embrace the wonders of nature.
Stay tuned for more updates on how educational programs continue to shape young minds and foster a love for the outdoors.
