Students Showcase Art in Limerick Exhibition Using New Method

URGENT UPDATE: The artwork of eight students with autism from Limerick Educate Together Secondary School will be publicly exhibited on Saturday, September 6, at 11 AM. This groundbreaking exhibition features art created through an innovative research method called Picturevoice, developed by local teacher Jarlath Healy.
This unique approach allows students to express their educational experiences through drawing, amplifying the voices of an often underrepresented group. “The purpose of the study was to give voice to an otherwise underrepresented cohort in society,” Healy stated.
The exhibition will take place at An tSlí, Tara Building within Mary Immaculate College, marking a significant milestone for the students involved. Healy, who is currently pursuing a Masters in Special Education, created Picturevoice as part of his thesis while working directly with these talented young artists.
“This event is a hugely important opportunity to present these children’s work in a position of strength, creativity, and dignity,” Healy emphasized, highlighting the emotional impact of the artwork. The event aims to raise awareness and understanding of autism while celebrating the creativity of these students.
The public is encouraged to attend this inspiring exhibition and support the students as they showcase their artistic talents. This initiative not only elevates their voices but also fosters a sense of community and inclusion.
Don’t miss this chance to witness the power of art to communicate and connect. Mark your calendars for September 6 at 11 AM and join the celebration of creativity and expression in Limerick.
