UPDATE: A massive gathering is underway as tens of thousands of mourners pay their respects to conservative activist Charlie Kirk at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The memorial service, titled “Building a Legacy, Remembering Charlie Kirk,” began at 11 a.m. local time today, with the venue reaching full capacity of 63,000, forcing additional attendees to a nearby 20,000-seat venue.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump, was tragically shot dead last week while speaking at a college event in Utah. He was just 31 years old.

The service has drawn an impressive lineup of Republican leaders, including Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who gathered to honor Kirk’s legacy. Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegseth, and Donald Trump Jr. also delivered moving eulogies, spotlighting Kirk’s influence in conservative circles.

Significantly, each seat in the stadium featured a “We Are Charlie Kirk” bracelet, while posters with the Bible verse Isaiah 6:8 adorned the venue. Attendees heeded the request from Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, to wear red, white, and blue, creating a sea of patriotic colors. Many mourners also donned MAGA hats and Trump campaign attire.

The level of security at the event was extraordinary, designated as a SEAR Level 1 event, comparable to the Super Bowl, due to the presence of high-profile attendees. Heavy security, including Secret Service agents and police, was evident throughout Glendale.

Christian artists such as Kari Jobe Carnes and Phil Wickham led worship during the service, blending elements of a megachurch service with the energy of a political rally. The event opened with a moving rendition of “Amazing Grace” performed by Scottish bagpipers, followed by Chris Tomlin leading the congregation in worship.

“Charlie was never afraid, because he knew his life was secure in the hand of God,” said Pastor Rob McCoy, who delivered the first address. “Without Charlie Kirk’s presence, they pulled off the largest event in Turning Point history,” he added, to enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

In an emotional moment, American singer Steve Amerson performed the national anthem, further heightening the patriotic atmosphere. The memorial service combined deep grief with a celebration of Kirk’s impactful life and legacy.

Prior to the service, Trump referred to the day as “a time of healing,” expressing disbelief over Kirk’s tragic death. Vance, who shared a heartfelt message on social media, referred to Kirk as a “dear friend” and extended wishes for peace to Kirk’s family.

As the day progresses, the memorial is not only a tribute to Kirk but also a testament to the considerable influence he wielded within the conservative movement. The turnout signals the continued legacy of Turning Point USA and its mission, even in the face of profound loss.

As the community comes together to honor Kirk, the world watches for further developments on the investigation surrounding his death and the future of his organization.
