‘The Forgotten Creatures’ Gamebook Launches in Inishowen Next Week!
UPDATE: The highly anticipated launch of ‘The Forgotten Creatures’, the first gamebook set in Inishowen, is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2023, from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Inishowen Innovation (ii) hub in Buncrana. This event promises to immerse attendees in a unique combination of storytelling and interactive gameplay, showcasing the rich heritage of the region.
This innovative gamebook invites players to step into a captivating world where extinct Irish animals and mythical creatures come alive. Set against the breathtaking backdrops of Buncrana, Inch Island, the Celtic Prayer Garden, and Malin Head, ‘The Forgotten Creatures’ is more than just a book; it’s an adventure that challenges players to make choices that will determine the fate of these forgotten beings.
Marzia Bosoni, co-creator of the gamebook and part of the Donegal-based team, Forgotten Books, expressed her excitement: “Our books may look like ordinary stories, but they are doors to engaging adventures. ‘The Forgotten Creatures’ is an invitation to rediscover Inishowen’s rich heritage and reflect on our relationship with nature and folklore.”
The event is designed to draw in audiences of all ages, fostering a deeper appreciation for Inishowen’s history and landscapes in a fun, immersive way. Anne Marie McLaughlin, Manager at the ii, aims to engage the community and inspire young people to reflect on humanity’s impact on the natural world.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore this unique gamebook, crafted by a talented trio: Marzia Bosoni, a professional literary translator and author; Alessandro (Alex) Caselli, a computer science engineer and board game designer; and David Lovallo, a coder and illustrator. Their collective expertise has transformed the book into an interactive experience that reads like a tourist map yet plays like a game.
The launch event is free, but registration is required at theii.com/events. Additionally, ‘The Forgotten Creatures’ will be available for purchase on www.irishhands.com, a platform dedicated to supporting artists and creative makers from Inishowen and the North West.
This exciting development not only highlights the creative talents emerging from the region but also serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving local history and folklore. Don’t miss this chance to engage with a unique literary experience that combines adventure, education, and a celebration of Inishowen’s culture.
