Thousands Unite in Kilkenny for Urgent Very Pink Run Fundraiser

UPDATE: Nearly 3,200 people flooded Kilkenny’s Castle Park on July 16, 2023, for the annual Very Pink Run, a powerful show of support for Breast Cancer Ireland. This year, the vibrant event transformed the park into a sea of pink, as families, friends, and runners united to raise vital funds for breast cancer research.
The Very Pink Run is not just a local event; it has evolved into a global movement, attracting over 110,000 participants across 40 countries. Following successful runs in Dublin and Cork, Kilkenny’s turnout underscores the growing commitment to tackling breast cancer and supporting affected families.
Among the attendees were notable figures such as rugby legend Shane Byrne, wellness advocate Chris Connolly, and leading breast surgeon Professor Arnie Hill, who emphasized the importance of raising awareness and funds for research. Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland, also attended, highlighting the event’s significance in the fight against the disease.
Participants of all ages joined the event, which included both 5km and 10km courses suitable for casual strollers and seasoned runners alike. The atmosphere was electrifying, with music, games, and children’s entertainment transforming the run into a family festival.
The funds raised during this year’s run are earmarked for crucial research initiatives aimed at understanding metastatic disease progression to the brain and accelerating the transition of scientific discoveries into international clinical trials. This targeted investment in research could lead to significant advancements in breast cancer treatment and care.
The enthusiasm surrounding the Very Pink Run serves as a reminder of the community’s dedication to combating breast cancer. As the event wraps up, organizers and participants alike are already looking ahead to future runs, ensuring that the momentum continues.
Stay tuned for more updates on how the funds raised will directly impact research and patient care initiatives. The fight against breast cancer is far from over, and events like the Very Pink Run play a vital role in bringing people together for this important cause.
