Thousands Without Power in Ireland as Storm Claudia Cleanup Continues
UPDATE: Thousands of homes and businesses across Ireland are currently without power this morning as the aftermath of Storm Claudia continues to disrupt daily life. As of 9 AM today, 3,000 customers are affected, and restoration efforts are ongoing, according to ESB Networks.
Weather warnings have been lifted by Met Éireann, including a status orange rain warning previously in effect for Dublin, Wexford, and Wicklow. Although the warnings have been removed, authorities caution the public to remain vigilant as clean-up operations unfold and localized hazards persist.
Local transport services, especially in the greater Dublin area, have also experienced disruptions due to the storm’s impact. Keith Leonard, national director for Fire and Emergency Management, confirmed that local authorities had been on high alert since Thursday in anticipation of “significant” flooding and dangerous travel conditions.
Residents are advised to stay updated as assessments of affected areas are underway. Local authority crews are prepared to respond as conditions evolve. While rain is expected to ease throughout the day, Met Éireann reports that it will remain “rather wet and breezy” this Saturday morning, with possible sunny spells developing in the south later.
The latest forecast predicts maximum temperatures between 7°C and 14°C, with fresh to strong northeasterly winds easing to light to moderate by early afternoon.
The situation remains dynamic, and authorities are urging residents to exercise caution. As power restoration efforts continue, many are left grappling with the effects of the storm. Stay tuned for further updates as we monitor the situation closely.
For those impacted, the community response has been tremendous, showing resilience and readiness to support one another during this challenging time. Share your experiences and updates with us as we navigate through this storm recovery.
