A three-year-old girl suffered serious injuries when a corner cabinet fell on her in a hotel room at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool. The incident occurred around 11:00 on Saturday, with her mother, Danielle Kenny, reporting that the child, Valencia, was left with blood streaming from her face after the accident.

The family was enjoying a getaway in Liverpool, having checked into the hotel after a day out in the city. Danielle, who is from Widnes, was preparing to bathe her nine-month-old son, Valentino, when Valencia and her two sisters, aged two and ten, were playing nearby. As Valencia attempted to open the lower door of the cabinet, it toppled over, striking her and causing her to become trapped underneath.

Danielle described the cabinet as tall, extending almost to the ceiling and supported by three legs. “I jumped up as soon as I heard the bang and her scream,” she recounted. “Her whole face and head were pouring with blood.” She quickly wrapped a towel around Valencia’s head and rushed to the hotel reception for assistance.

Valencia was transported to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for treatment. Medical staff treated her for a significant 6 cm cut and two additional 2 cm cuts on her head before discharging her later that day. The family returned home, leaving their belongings at the hotel due to the traumatic incident.

Danielle expressed concern about the psychological impact on her daughter, stating that Valencia has been anxious and reluctant to play with others, fearing that her injuries will affect her interactions. The mother has since reported the incident to Liverpool City Council and is awaiting their response.

In light of the incident, the hotel’s parent company, Britannia Hotels, has been contacted for a statement. A photograph shared by Danielle shows the cabinet in question, which has raised concerns about the safety measures in place at the hotel.

This incident recalls a tragic event that took place almost three years prior, when a young woman named Chloe Haynes was killed after a wardrobe fell on her in the same hotel. Chloe, who was 21 at the time, was found dead in her room on September 10, 2020. Although three men were arrested on suspicion of murder, they were released without charge after police determined her death was accidental. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is still ongoing, with Chloe’s mother, Nicola Williams, continuing her efforts to uncover the truth.

This recent incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety standards in hotel accommodations, with families urging for increased measures to ensure the well-being of guests, particularly young children.
