Travel Ban Extended for Irish Resident Linked to Iceland Killings
Police in Iceland have confirmed that a travel ban on a suspect linked to the killings at the Reykjavik Edition Hotel has been extended. The woman, a French national in her sixties who had been residing in Ireland, is implicated in the deaths of her husband and daughter, discovered on June 14, 2025. Following her release from custody in September, she was prohibited from leaving Iceland until January 30, 2026.
Initially, the travel ban was set to last until the end of February 2026, but a national court recently adjusted this ruling, allowing Icelandic authorities additional time for their investigation. The suspect is required to report to a police station several times a week, and her passport has been confiscated.
On the day of the incident, the woman’s husband, aged 58, and their daughter, aged 30, were found dead in their hotel room by a staff member. The suspect was discovered with injuries and was subsequently arrested. The family had been living in Ireland for approximately ten years and had traveled to Iceland for a one-week visit.
Despite an initial refusal, Icelandic police permitted the suspect to attend the funerals of her family members in the Reykjavik capital region. She remained in custody until early September 2025, as the police conducted their investigations. Under Icelandic law, suspects cannot be held for longer than 12 weeks, which necessitated her release under the travel ban conditions.
Currently, Icelandic police have an additional eight weeks to complete their investigation. They are coordinating with international law enforcement agencies to aid in their inquiries. As the investigation unfolds, further details about the incident and the individuals involved may emerge. The family has not been publicly identified.
