Trump Confirms Upcoming Meeting with Putin in Hungary to End War

UPDATE: US President Donald Trump has just announced plans to meet again with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary, in a bid to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. While a specific date has yet to be set, this significant diplomatic move follows a recent phone conversation where Trump expressed optimism about progress.
In a social media post earlier today, Trump stated, “I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation,” indicating a renewed focus on resolving the conflict that has persisted for nearly four years. This meeting comes as tensions remain high, with Trump set to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tomorrow, October 17, 2025, at the White House.
Trump’s engagement signals a critical shift, especially as he prepares to discuss the potential sale of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Zelenskyy has been advocating for these long-range weapons to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and pressure Putin into serious negotiations. “Do they want to have Tomahawks going in that direction? I don’t think so,” Trump remarked, emphasizing his strategy to leverage military support in diplomatic talks.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials will meet with Russian representatives next week, although the location of this meeting remains undisclosed. This diplomatic effort aims to set the stage for Trump’s upcoming discussions with Putin.
Today’s announcement coincides with Trump’s heightened focus on foreign policy, especially as he grapples with multiple international crises. Following a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, Trump appears more confident in his ability to influence outcomes in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
“Interestingly we made progress today, because of what’s happened in the Middle East,” Trump stated during a dinner event, highlighting the interconnectedness of global conflicts.
As Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign pivots towards ending both the Ukraine and Gaza wars, he has been vocal in criticizing President Joe Biden for his handling of these conflicts. Trump’s approach suggests a willingness to ramp up pressure on Putin if negotiations do not yield results.
With the stakes higher than ever, tomorrow’s meeting with Zelenskyy is poised to be pivotal. Trump’s commitment to providing Ukraine with advanced weaponry could reshape the dynamics of the war and potentially bring Russia to the negotiating table.
As the situation evolves, all eyes will be on Budapest, where Trump and Putin are expected to engage in crucial discussions that could impact the future of Ukraine and international relations. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
