Two Accused of Murdering Man with 11 Stab Wounds Blame Each Other
BREAKING NEWS: In a shocking trial unfolding in Cork, two defendants are facing serious murder charges for the brutal killing of 61-year-old Michael Foley, who was found dead in his home in Macroom with 11 stab wounds. The accused, Daniel Hourigan and Linda O’Flynn, both aged 32, are blaming each other for the violent act, as revealed in court today.
The trial, taking place at the Central Criminal Court in Cork, has seen the prosecution outlining a harrowing case against the pair. During her opening statement, Jane Hyland, SC for the Prosecution, emphasized that the State believes Hourigan and O’Flynn acted in a “joint enterprise” intending to kill or cause serious injuries to Foley. The case has drawn significant public attention due to its brutal nature and the dramatic claims made in court.
On February 6, 2024, a care worker discovered Foley’s body lying on the kitchen floor of his home at Annville Housing Complex in Barrett’s Place. A postmortem conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster revealed that Foley suffered a “violent death,” with evidence of severe beating alongside the stab wounds. Authorities have confirmed that the injuries were consistent with multiple blows and sharp force trauma.
CCTV footage plays a pivotal role in the case. Prosecutors revealed that on January 31, 2024, Foley was last seen alive near his home around 8:15 PM. On the same evening, Hourigan and O’Flynn were captured on cameras making their way from Cork to Macroom, heading directly towards Foley’s residence. The following morning, they retraced their steps back to Cork, leaving behind a crucial piece of evidence—a black bag containing a knife, which was later found to have Foley’s blood on it.
During police interviews, both Hourigan and O’Flynn initially denied being in Macroom at the time of the alleged offense. However, as the questioning progressed, both accused began to shift blame onto each other for the fatal injuries inflicted on Foley.
The trial is expected to feature further evidence, including testimonies from the bus driver who discovered the knife and other witnesses who can shed light on the events leading up to the murder. The case continues to develop, with the jury poised to hear more critical details that could determine the fates of Hourigan and O’Flynn.
As this high-profile trial progresses, it has captured the attention of the public and media alike, with many eager to learn the outcome of this tragic case. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
