UPDATE: A unique photography exhibition kicks off this weekend at The Village Bar in Clogh, County Kilkenny, offering a rare glimpse into the village’s history. From October 4 to October 6, 2023, visitors can experience the evocative work of John Coffey, featuring photographs taken between 1978 and 1988 that capture the essence of community life.

As excitement builds, Coffey’s photographs portray familiar faces and moments from a bygone era, creating an emotional connection for local residents. Many of the images feature individuals who have since passed away, making this exhibition not just an art display, but a heartfelt tribute to the village’s past.

Coffey, originally from Newbridge, moved to Clogh in 1979 and has played a pivotal role in the local community. His family has operated a pub in the village, and he has documented life in Clogh through his lens. To prepare for this exhibition, Coffey dedicated countless hours to carefully scanning and restoring old negatives, ensuring that the rich history of the village is preserved and shared.

Unlike many contemporary artists, Coffey has opted to keep his work offline, making this in-person exhibition a must-see event. Cllr John Brennan praised Coffey and the team at The Village Bar, including Bríd Mooney Doyle and John Doyle, for their efforts in bringing this important piece of history to life.

Visitors can expect a vibrant atmosphere, heightened by a live performance from a trad band scheduled to play at the pub on Saturday evening. The exhibition is anticipated to attract strong local interest, as residents eagerly look to spot familiar faces in the photographs on display.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with the past and experience the community spirit of Clogh, County Kilkenny. The three-day event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend.

Stay tuned for updates and coverage from this remarkable exhibition!
