Urgent Appeal Filed for Kilkenny Café Conversion Project

UPDATE: A planning application to convert a former betting office at Irishtown/Dean Street (R95 XK40) into a café has been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála, following initial approval by Kilkenny County Council.

The proposed development includes a coffee and cake area, kitchen, seating zones, toilets, and a modern shopfront design with a new external awning. This conversion, viewed as a positive transformation for the community, was granted permission on June 23, 2025, but has now faced opposition.

Only one submission was made against the original application, prompting the council to impose five conditions before granting permission. However, the decision is now under scrutiny as the appeal process unfolds.
