Urgent Arrests in Cork: Guns, Heroin Seized from Brothers

URGENT UPDATE: Two men have been arrested in Cork after gardaí uncovered a cache of weapons and drugs during a late-night traffic stop. The dramatic incident occurred around 11 PM on Wednesday at a filling station in Charleville, where officers halted a vehicle linked to the suspects.
The arrested individuals, brothers aged 40 and 32 from Ballincollig, were found in possession of a loaded 3D printed handgun and an AK-47 rifle. Both firearms have been sent to Dublin for rigorous examination by ballistics experts to determine their viability. Additionally, approximately €800 worth of heroin was discovered in the vehicle, which has also been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
Authorities believe the brothers were traveling from Limerick to Cork when they were intercepted. Following the initial arrest, gardaí executed further searches in Cork city and Limerick county, leading to the recovery of additional ammunition, which is now under examination for potential ballistic connections.
The suspects have been taken to Mallow Garda station for questioning under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, allowing authorities to detain them for up to 72 hours before charges must be filed or they must be released.
This high-stakes operation has raised alarms about the potential circulation of illegal firearms and narcotics in the region, emphasizing the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating organized crime. As investigations continue, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
