Urgent Call for Action on Water Crisis in North-West Donegal
UPDATE: Local councillor Michael McClafferty has urgently called for national attention on a severe decline in essential services in north-west Donegal. Frustration is escalating over prolonged water outages, policing difficulties, and planning obstacles affecting local residents.
Residents in Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh are experiencing significant disruptions, with some going without water for up to two days. “This situation is unacceptable, especially for families with children or health needs,” McClafferty stated, emphasizing the human impact of these ongoing issues.
McClafferty has criticized Uisce Éireann for its lack of communication during these critical interruptions, leaving residents unsure of when services will be restored. “Donegal is getting a kicking,” he exclaimed, highlighting the dire state of public services, including the local policing situation where gardai have reportedly had to borrow a patrol car due to equipment failures.
“We have no water most days, and planning is non-existent along the N56 or any of our national roads,” McClafferty added, pressing the need for urgent intervention.
Despite acknowledging the efforts of Pat the Cope Gallagher and his office for providing updates throughout the week, McClafferty is demanding more from local representatives. He urged Pearse Doherty, Charlie McConalogue, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn, and Charles Ward to “put on the Donegal jersey and fight for their constituents.”
“Start representing us please before it’s too late,” McClafferty implored, calling on TDs to hold Uisce Éireann accountable and to raise these pressing issues firmly in the Dáil.
This urgent call to action reflects a growing sentiment among Donegal residents who feel neglected amid ongoing service declines. As local leaders demand immediate solutions, the situation remains critical, and updates from officials are highly anticipated.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and informed as the community seeks to rally support for these essential services. The call for action in Donegal is clear: immediate intervention is needed to address the pressing issues affecting daily life.
