Urgent Call for Enhanced Lighting at Kilkenny Skatepark
URGENT UPDATE: Local Green Party representative, Cllr Maria Dollard, has called for immediate action from Kilkenny County Council to enhance public safety at the Kilkenny Skatepark. In a motion submitted ahead of the Kilkenny City Municipal District meeting scheduled for next Friday, Cllr Dollard emphasized the necessity of improving public lighting in and around the skatepark.
The proposal comes as the skatepark gains new significance, linking Linear Park and Riverside Park. Cllr Dollard stated, “Given its new importance, these improvements should specifically consider the adequacy of lighting at the skatepark.” She urged for a comprehensive assessment that includes current lighting, illumination under the bridge, and lighting along the public approach.
Authorities report that this assessment will involve consultation with the Biodiversity Officer to address environmental sensitivities near the River Nore. Additionally, discussions will include An Garda Síochána regarding the potential installation of CCTV cameras to bolster public safety further.
The matter is set to be a focal point of discussion at the upcoming Kilkenny City Municipal District gathering at County Hall, highlighting the urgent need for action to ensure safety in this popular community space.
As safety concerns rise, this initiative aims to protect visitors while promoting a welcoming atmosphere for all. The community awaits the council’s response and the potential for significant improvements in public safety measures at the skatepark.
