Urgent Feed Support Announced for Tirlán Milk Suppliers

UPDATE: Tirlán has just announced an urgent feed support initiative for its family farm milk suppliers facing challenges due to recent dry weather. The co-op will provide financial rebates to assist in maintaining milk output amid declining grass growth.
From 24 August to 13 September 2025, Tirlán will offer a rebate of €30 per tonne on GAIN dairy feed, €10 per tonne on Irish rolled cereals, and €3 per tonne on straights. This decisive support comes as grass availability has sharply decreased in parts of the Tirlán catchment area, impacting efforts to build sufficient grass reserves for the autumn months.
Recent surveys indicate that approximately 90% of the 593 respondents among Tirlán milk suppliers reported either a decline in average farm cover or difficulties in accumulating grass reserves. This situation is forcing many suppliers to rely more on conserved forage, directly affecting milk supply in several regions.
Ailish Byrne, Tirlán’s Chief Agri Officer, emphasized the necessity of this initiative: “Our teams are actively assisting suppliers with grass budgeting and providing nutritional advice to enhance cow performance and health. Through engaging with and listening to our dairy farmers, it’s clear there is a requirement to assist our family farms during this period. This support is designed to help suppliers avoid a sharp drop in milk output for this time of year, build grass reserves for the autumn, and conserve winter feed stocks.”
The feed support is aimed at ensuring that farmers can fully meet their herds’ energy needs while safeguarding their winter feed reserves. Milk suppliers are encouraged to place their orders through their local Tirlán branch, Business Manager, or online via Tirlán FarmLife by clicking on ‘My Account.’
This initiative is critical for maintaining milk production levels, as the dry spell continues to pose challenges for farmers. With the autumn season approaching, the need for effective grass management and nutritional support has never been more urgent.
Stay tuned for further updates as Tirlán works to support its suppliers through this challenging period.
