UPDATE: A tragic accident in Ballinalee, County Longford, has led to the death of Shane Carrigy, aged 45, who was fatally trapped under a bus at his family’s business, Carrigy Coaches, on November 27, 2023, at approximately 11:50 AM. The community is in mourning as tributes pour in for a devoted family man and community supporter.

At his funeral service held at the packed Holy Trinity Church, parishioners honored Carrigy’s legacy as someone who dedicated his life to serving others. Fr. Thomas Murray highlighted Carrigy’s role in transporting children to school and sporting events, emphasizing his impact on the community. “Shane spent his life carrying people,” Fr. Murray stated, reflecting on Carrigy’s friendships and mentorship to youth, including a long-distance bond with a Gaelic player from Australia.

In a heartbreaking twist, Carrigy’s father, Michael Carrigy, also passed away just two days later, further deepening the sorrow felt by the family and community. Shane is survived by his wife Anne, children Kayla and Ryan, and his siblings Michelle, Raymond, Michael, and Aiden. His funeral mass concluded with a burial at St. Emer’s Cemetery in Ballinalee.

Meanwhile, the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has confirmed it is launching an investigation into the incident. A spokesperson noted, “The HSA is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time.” This investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, which has left the local community in shock.

As the community grieves, the outpouring of support for the Carrigy family highlights the profound loss felt by many who knew Shane. The investigation’s findings will be closely followed as the community seeks answers and justice for a beloved figure who touched countless lives.
