Urgent: Man, 40s, in Serious Condition After Dublin Assault

URGENT UPDATE: A man in his 40s is in serious condition following a brutal assault in Dublin early this morning. The incident occurred on Westmoreland Street at approximately 6:30 AM, prompting immediate response from emergency services.
Witnesses report that the victim was violently attacked, leading to his urgent transport to St James’ Hospital for serious injuries. Gardaí have cordoned off the scene, with multiple nearby areas also taped off as forensic teams conduct a thorough investigation.
The affected locations include the footpath on the western side of O’Connell Bridge and a section on the south side of Aston Quay. The area in front of the College Green Hotel across the street has also been sealed off for examination.
Gardaí have stated, “Gardaí in Pearse Street are currently at the scene of a serious assault that occurred on Westmoreland Street, Dublin 2 this morning.” The police continue to work diligently at the scene, ensuring all evidence is preserved as investigations move forward.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the PSNI in Derry is investigating an armed attack that occurred at around 1:55 AM today. Two occupants of a home were seriously assaulted during the break-in, where two men armed with knives forced entry, leading to significant criminal damage and theft.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in custody as police continue their inquiries. The PSNI is also calling for witnesses or anyone with relevant video footage to assist with their investigation.
