Urgent: Man Dies After Fall at Busy Dublin Train Station
UPDATE: A man has tragically died after falling onto the platform at Dun Laoghaire DART Station in Dublin yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:50 PM on August 26, 2025, when the man fell from a public footpath that overlooks the northbound platform.
Emergency services were immediately alerted, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Irish Rail confirmed that staff reported the incident and that trains were promptly suspended to facilitate the response.
In an official statement, Irish Rail said, “Tragically, despite the efforts of station staff and emergency services personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Our deepest sympathies are with the loved ones of the deceased.”
The Gardai also assisted at the scene, confirming they responded to a medical incident at Crofton Road. A spokesperson stated, “There is no further information available at this time.”
Following the incident, train services through Dun Laoghaire were suspended, causing significant delays of up to 25 minutes for commuters. Passengers were advised to use Dublin Bus, which is honoring valid rail tickets during the service interruption.
Posting to social media, rail officials communicated: “Due to an incident at Dun Laoghaire, services have been suspended from the station. While trains are operating through Dun Laoghaire, no services will stop at this station until further notice.”
As of the latest updates, some services have resumed but are still experiencing delays. The station, a critical stop for DART services between Bray and Howth and for Irish Rail services between Rosslare and Dublin Connolly, has been reopened for both northbound and southbound routes.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the urgent need for safety measures at busy transit locations. Commuters are advised to stay informed on service updates as the situation develops.
Further information is expected as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Please check back for updates.
